We just returned from the New York Vision Expo and found a number of new lines and new arrivals we’re excited to bring to Portland this Spring.  And for those looking for truly bespoke and limited editions, we are now an exclusive destination for the Piero Massaro collections from Italy.

The eyeglasses of the designer Piero Massaro, are exclusively made of cellulose acetate, the only plastic material that comes not from petrol but from plant matter such as cotton staple fiber

In particular, Piero Massaro, uses the most precious of all cellulose acetate, as it allows to get amazing, three-dimensional and incomparable color effects. It’s different from any other material for its transparency, its brilliance of the colors and its magical compositions. The peculiarity of this material allows to work the glasses by hand and thus to offer a really “handmade” piece

The frames are not painted but polished by “tumbling”; frame and temples are placed in special barrels containing fragments of plastic, beech and birch wood, and shaped abrasive pumice that rotate continuously for several days, rounding off carefully the different components.

To give the eyewear the distinctive sandblasted effect, they proceed with the “blasting”, a mechanical process by which they erode the very top layer of glasses by abrasion obtained with a very thin jet of sand sprinkled on the manually placed glasses, one at a time, in a special machine.

These first editions along with many other new arrivals will be arriving in both location in early May just in time for Spring!
