Many women experience fluctuations in their vision during pregnancy; the same growth hormones that are bathing your baby are wreaking havoc with all the normally fine-tuned systems throughout your body.

Though your regular contacts or glasses are not working as well, now may not be the best time to get a new prescription; your vision will continue to change, and will not stabilize until a few months after the birth. In addition, most optometrists are wary of administering dilating drops to a pregnant woman unless there is very good reason, to avoid any possible uptake by the fetus.

If you have diabetes, however, you must continue your regular schedule of eye exams throughout your pregnancy; pregnancy will often cause diabetes to flare up, and this may put your eye health at serious risk. Ask your eye care provider if you have any questions.
